About Tree of Flowaura
Tree of Life or Tree of Flowaura, life flows where the tree grows.
Born in October 1862, Hilma af Klint was born in Sweden. She grew up to be one of the first major abstract female painters in Western Art History.
In 1907, she started “The Ten Largest” which gave a glimpse of the four stages of life and human development: childhood, youth, adulthood and old age. Each composition took four days to paint.
In 1915, she released the “Tree of Knowledge” series. In this series, the tree is a map of human consciousness. The lower part reflects our origins and internal complexity. The upper part reflects the pursuit of clarity and transcendence. It shows knowledge as a living, evolving process rather than a fixed truth.
In 2025, I had the privilege to see some of those paintings live in the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. “The Ten Largest” are called as such for a reason, you felt tiny in front of the pieces, reduced to be absorbed by the art. I was incredibly inspired: by the colours, the abstract shapes and the symbolisms. The way she used plants and plenty of botanical references to reach a higher understanding of life. I could feel I was standing under an artist that was aware and spiritual.
Tree of Flowaura is one iteration of my take of the Tree of Life and consciousness. A simple drawing, calming to the eyes and to the soul.
